Something a little different from me this morning, as life has been so full recently. Good things, tough things, all the things. So today I’ve put together a little pick n mix of some of my favourite ‘things’ from the week. Wishing you all wonderful weekends (and of course, weekend runs). Enjoy! Verity x
Favourite run of the week-
This week my Run Verity club members and I ran Hayling Billy 5 mile race. It’s an out and back route that follows the old Hayling Billy Railway Line, which used to take holiday makers from Havant to Hayling Island on the South Coast of England. It’s been running for 25 years now and in that time has raised around £38,000 for local charities. It’s a firm favourite of ours, not least because after we all had Fish and Chips on the beach while the sun set. Hoodies obligatory because Summer is still pending in the UK, especially by the coast, but honestly we can’t complain too much really can we?
Here are 3 things I’ve been reading and loving this week:
This piece from
about why a 5K can be harder than a 30K and his extremely relatable reflections on a recent race. I especially loved this line:
“5k is “run what you brung.” There’s no time out there to work through your shit. It’s all about the fitness and Zen (or lack thereof) you bring to the start line”.
I loved
Substack on Myths and Facts about menopause and HRT. This is something I am really passionate about, and it’s a great read whatever age (or gender!) you are.In a similar vein, this article on a new study that disproves the long held assumption that HRT causes breast cancer was deeply gratifying (and equally frustrating) to read. (And a little bonus for a laugh- I loved this hilarious response from the comedian Cally Beaton after being told that women “used to just get on with it” after one of her gigs.)
Run Verity Posts You Might Not Have Read
A little shameless self- promotion for some of my early Substacks (pre having any actual subscribers!) in case you missed them.
Thanks for the shout-out!! :)
